Let me tell you something about smash cake sessions.. they are some of my Absolute Favorite. Some advice from one mama to another, introduce cake before your session. If you want it to be the absolute first time your baby sees and tastes cake I understand. But if you 100% want your baby to make a mess and eat cake, consider a trial run. My last son wanted nothing to do with his smash cake session it was sad. We had to do a second session just so I was able to get images of him eating and smashing cake. He was ALL about it round two!
Another thing to think about is the hat you purchase. Some hats come with ribbons on them and they are next to impossible to get tied on a little one. Elastic bottom hats prove to be a lot easier to use in sessions. Amazon as well as Etsy has a lot of options for you for hats as well as outfits. Another cute option for first birthday is donuts or cookies. If you think that cake would be too much then you might want to try one of those options. I have also seen spaghetti as well as tacos, both super cute.
Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes as well as wet wipes to your session. Some people like to also bring zip up pajamas so we can wipe baby down good but you can still cover him/her up then straight home to bathe.
