Birmingham Alabama First Birthday Photographer: Meredith Rowlen. Let’s talk about your babies first birthday session. First Birthday Sessions are even more exciting for me after taking babies newborn images too! It’s just so amazing how much our babies change in a year!
One of my favorite things is smash cakes! You can see some examples of my past smash cakes as well as childrens sessions here. I tell my clients to bring decorations from their first birthday parties to decorate the background. But you can find many first birthday options on amazon. Here’s a few cute options: Cowboys, ONEderful, Wild ONE, Princess, Isn’t she ONEderful.
Smash cake bakeries are easy to find in our area. Publix or Edgars never disappoints. I have also seen some amazing home bakery cakes as well. Some important things to remember is to not get blueberries on your cake, jelly beans or other choking sized add ons. Also do not have your cake in the freezer the night before the session, it will be very hard for baby to smash.Smash cakes with red and blue tend to stain and ruin outfits. Try to keep that in mind when you are taking pictures befors actual birthday parties. When ordering don’t forget that paper cut or cardboard cake toppers are usually smashed and ruined. You may want to go ahead and buy two up front.
I like to also suggest to parents to let their babies have a little trial run. A slice of cake or a cupcake just to get a taste and a feel of the texture. Sometimes it helps with babies performance at their session. Sometimes kids hate their cakes and thats ok too we have ways to make it look like they were interested in pictures.
